You may have noticed quite a few images of plants and flowers in my feed recently. These are part of a series of smaller works on a flowery theme.
Appropriately these works will be on show at Gail Smith Flowers on Liverpool Road, Islington in July 2026.
About The Show
This series of paintings have been created specifically to appear in the florist shop. Displayed alongside and amongst the their natural iterations.
Each painting is a moment in time and my response to what I can see. I look to find the personality in the individual poses and compositions. Close looking reveals almost unreal worlds and somewhat alien forms, suggesting interesting characters to capture in paint.
Beyond the obvious aesthetics flower paintings remind us of the fleeting nature of life and beauty. The beauty is short lived and Insect life, detritus, debris and moulds all lurk in the folds and crevices of seemingly perfect petals. The life of plants or microcosm of a flower is neither still or dead and you will find a few members of the supporting cast in these pictures in the shape of bees, butterflies, mice and lizards.
